Batgirl: Gotham’s Dark Knightess

Batgirl is the heroic mantle worn by several women in DC Comics, but the most iconic bearer is Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City’s Police Commissioner, James Gordon. Created by William Dozier, Julius Schwartz, and Carmine Infantino, she first appeared in Detective Comics #359 (1967) in the story “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl.”
