Long after you have finished reading them

Most comics are enjoyable while you are reading them.

A smaller number stick in your head for a few days afterwards.

A lot of people assume the most memorable comics are the ones with huge events or major twists.

That can be true, but more often it is the smaller moments that linger.

A conversation between two characters. A choice someone makes. A panel that captures a feeling perfectly.

Those are the bits that tend to come back to you later, often when you are not expecting it.

The Power of the Artwork

Comics have something other forms of storytelling do not.

They can show you a moment and let you sit with it.

A single image can carry more weight than a page of dialogue. The way a character is drawn, the use of colour, even the space between panels all play a part.

Sometimes it is not what is said, but what is not said that makes a scene land.

The Right Story at the Right Time

There is also timing.

A comic can hit differently depending on when you read it. Something that might not have meant much a few years ago can suddenly feel very relevant later on.

That is why people often revisit certain books. Not just for the story, but for how it makes them feel at that moment.

The Ones You Come Back To

Everyone has a few comics they go back to.

They might not be the most valuable or the most talked about, but they are the ones that feel familiar. The ones you pick up when you want something reliable.

Over time, those books become part of your routine in a quiet sort of way.
